This programme is suitable for students who do not wish to complete the traditional Leaving Cert. It enables students to:
- Enter employment directly after school
- Apply for a PLC (post Leaving Cert course)
- Apply for an Apprenticeship
Students study the following subjects:
- Vocational Preparation and Guidance
- English and Communication
- Mathematical Applications
- Social Education
- Languages : Irish and a modern European language
- Two Vocational Specialisms (Hotel&Catering, Office Skills)
- Shorter courses may be taken in Leisure Studies, IT, Arts, RE
Assessment
There is a great emphasis on practical tasks and completion of assignments for the various modules. Credits are accumulated reaching a maximum of 200 credits over two years. LCA is awarded at 3 levels: Pass, Merit or Distinction depending on the number of credits attained by the student over the two years.
