On the 28th August 2017 Confey College welcomed the first group of students into the Sruth Lán-Ghaeilge and it has now successfully expanded into its fourth year welcoming another group of students to the school in 2020. Our first cohort of students to complete their Junior Cycle through An Sruth Lán Gailge have progressed on to Transition Year and have happily and smoothly made this transition.
The Sruth Lán-Ghaeilge provides students with the opportunity to study a number of their Junior Cycle subjects through the medium of Irish and Confey College are delighted to be able to provide students with this option.
Now students can enrol to be taught their core Junior Cert subjects through Irish including: Maths, History, Geography, Science, PE, RE, CSPE and SPHE.
English/French/German will be taught through the target language. Students can choose two other optional subjects such as Art, Business Studies, Chinese, Computers, Home Economics, Music, Woodwork and Metalwork to study through English alongside the mainstream students.
The addition of the Sruth benefits the entire school community. Irish has always been very strong in the school. The whole staff has engaged with the Sruth and are keen to see it develop and flourish further. It is expected that more students will take up this option in the coming years. It is a great facility and more students than ever are speaking Irish around the school. Both Sruth classes led the school’s participation in Comhrá 18 recently by taking part in a live Irish broadcast in an effort to have Irish spoken 24 hours a day for 7 days around the world. The Sruth will be offered to students from Gaelscoileanna each year to incoming first year students enrolling for the following September.
